George E. Carinder
NORFOLK -- Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer George Elliott Carinder, a sonar technician, 80, died in his home on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001.
He was born in Eldorado, Kan. Mr. Carinder retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service and during World War II he served in the submarine service in the Pacific and was awarded the Silver Star. He also retired from civil service. He was a longtime member of the Eagle Haven Golf Club Association; former member of the Flyer's Golf Association; former assistant Scout master; a member of the Fleet Reserve Association; and volunteered for over 15 years in the upholstery shop at the Madison Career Center.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie Meehan Carinder; a daughter, Jane Ellen Casimir and husband, George; sons, Brian George Carinder and Jude Elliott Carinder and wife, Cathy; and was blessed with five grandchildren.
A Christian wake service was held. Father Jay Wagner officiated. A graveside service was held on Feb. 21, 2001, in Arlington National Cemetery.
