Charles R MacDonald
1920-2005
 

Charles R. MacDonald, 84, a 70 year resident of Bedford, NY, died September 2, 2005 at his home. Mr. MacDonald was born September 4, 1920 in New Haven, CT to Samuel and Arline MacDonald. He graduated from Mamaroneck High School and received a BA degree from Colgate College.

He was retired from Reader's Digest in New York City. He was a Veteran and served in WW II in the US Air Corps and the American Field Service. He was a 30 year board member of the Mianus River Gorge Preserve and a member of the St. Andrews Society in New York City and St. Matthews Church in Bedford, NY.

He will be remembered for his love of nature and his love of family. He was an artist and printer. He loved the community. He tried to preserve land from development, working with The Committee to Save Bedford, and The Mianus River Gorge Preserve.
He is survived by: his wife Charity E. MacDonald, his son: Donald and his wife Kathleen of Cold Spring, NY, his son Piers and his wife, Bonner of Bedford, NY, his daughter, Carol and her husband Michael Swaidner of Colchester, VT, his son Wilson and his wife Rebecca of Holliston, MA, and his son Bruce and his wife Anne of Tarrytown, NY, also survived by ten grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at: St. Matthews Church, Bedford, NY, on Thursday, September 8, 2005, at 2:00 PM. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Mianus River Gorge Preserve, 167 Mianus River Road, Bedford, NY 10506.
